California Bike Tour - Coast and Desert Combo - Feb. 20-25, 2011 Our coast and desert bike trip offers the very best in warm-weather winter biking in the continental United States. You will bike along the magnificent Pacific Coast of Southern California, through the majestic, rugged beauty of the Anza-Borrego desert and into the vineyards of the Temecula Wine Country. To start, the bike tour will take us along the shore of the Pacific Ocean and through the fabulous residential area of La Jolla . Leaving the ocean behind, bikers will stay in Julian, a mountain gold rush town, and then bike miles down to the desert floor arriving at the luxiourious Borrego Springs Resort. There you can bike, hike, swim, play golf or tennis or just hang out. You will bike through desert badlands to the world-famous Salton Sea and explore other areas of the desert. The Coast and Desert bike tour will wrap up biking to Temecula wine country with lunch at a local winery and a fabulous biker farewell dinner in "Old Town Temecula"

California Bike Tour - Detailed Features Weather: The average high in San Diego in February is 66 F and the low 52 F, and in Borrego Springs 73 F and 47 F
Terrain: The bike trip is flat along the coast and varies between flat to very hilly in the desert depending on route selection. There is a substantial amount of down hill biking on the bike tour including an 11-mile descent into the desert.
Distances and Difficulty:The daily biking routes are 20-45 miles, but there will always be options for shorter and longer rides. The first day into the desert is hilly, but there is a magnificent 11-mile descent into the desert to Borrego Springs so that it is possible to design your ride to be mainly downhill. The trip is suitable for intermediate-level bikers and can be challenging enough for advanced bikers.

Day 1: San Diego Arrival and Welcome: Meet at Catamaran Resort Hotel in San Diego. After introductions and bike fitting, there is an optional afternoon bike ride on the bike path along Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean. A wonderful dinner will follow at a local favorite in the Gas Lamp District of San Diego. Route: 15 miles, Meals: (D)
Day 3: Julian to Anza-Borrego Springs: Today you will bike from the town of
Day 4: Anza-Borrego Springs and the Salton Sea: You will ride into the desert on a spectacular ride down to the Salton Sea. After lunch at the turn-around point, stronger riders can opt to ride back, while shuttle service is available for those who wish to return to the resort to enjoy the countless amenities of the Borrego Springs Resort, whether you prefer to lie out by one of many pools, keep up your fitness in the health spa or play a game of tennis. There will be a sumptuous dinner at the resort. Route: 35 miles to the sea, Meals: (B), (D) Day 5: Temecula Wine Country and Wine Tasting: Our journey departs from our desert oasis today, as we head north towards the Temecula Wine Country. You will ride along rolling foothills in the heart of the wine country, past orchards and horse ranches. You will arrive at the Inn at Churon Winery for a gourmet picnic lunch. wine tasting tour and dinner to conclude our ride through paradise. Day 6: Breakfast Shuttle and Goodbyes: Following an unforgettable sunrise and a plentiful breakfast, our journey comes to a close. Shuttle service to the San Diego Airport or local hotel. Meals: (B)
Making Reservations
Submit your deposit online or send us a deposit of $400 via mail to hold the reservation. Payment for the balance due is required at least six weeks before the start of the trip. You can pay via credit card by phone or mail a check.
